This three-part baseline certificate is designed to meet the needs of those individuals who are brand new to the out-of-school time field. Sessions will provide a history and overview of the field, an introduction to basic youth development principles, and the ages and stages of child development. Participants will learn about a variety of different types of after school environments youth workers might encounter and will discuss techniques for managing groups and dealing with behavior. Finally, the workshop presenters will help new youth workers build communication skills to better serve and engage with socially and culturally diverse youth and families, as well as essential professional behavior required for youth workers. After finishing this three-part training, participants will be prepared for entry-level positions in a variety of out-of-school time settings.
